Share.tech summit

Representants of European Parliament, European Commission and many other professionals from private and state sector. In general the current trend of shared economy is supported by all parties and from the point of view of European Commission, that was represented at conference by Lívia Vašáková, it is current priority to support this trend by implementation of unified digital market, significantly do not restrict the development of shared economy, keep focus on protection of consumers’ rights and create new fair rules of competing environment.

"Main goal of Share.Techsummitu was to create space for the discussion for all the involved parties, that create a shared economy. If we mention companies that offer solutions and platforms for the shared economy as Uber, Airbnb and JaSpravim or the final users and last but not least regulators and control organs,” we heard from David Čajko, organisator of the conference and he also adds, that the main goal was reached.

Speakers from abroad also presented detailed solutions how to deal with the shared economy. Within discussion “Where do we head with the shared economy” we talked about taxes for company Uber in Estonia, where within the period of 6 months the mutual solution was found that is currently in pilot testing.

Kalle Palling, Chairman of the Parliament’s European Union Affairs Committee of Estonia mentioned that: „Slovakia should move ahead with its regulatory approach. Estonia is a perfect example that could match the majority of markets in European Union. In Estonia, we are that successful because we decreased the regulation of traditional taxi service and in the meantime regulated shared rides. Thanks to this we have the flexible law on public transportation that allows everybody to operate on the market..” He also added that shared economy creates more opportunities for every individual – whether it is provider or customer. “User gets more options for less money and provider more possibilities to earn for himself or his family,” mentioned K. Palling.

Ivan Štefanec, member of European Parliament, would like to add: “Already in 2015 the income from shared economy reached above 28 billion of Eur and it increases year by year. More than a half of citizens of European Union noticed its existence and every sixth European also uses it in a certain way.”

A representative of the section for Management of Informatization, Mgr. Martina Slabejová Ph.D. expressed the support to the development of the shared economy and its idea of “Sharing not owning, that helps to people and entrepreneurs to save money, get the income, meet new people, build the trust, improve the choice and totally improve the living comfort.” Important is now to create reasonable legislation that will not prevent innovations and maintains a balance between the interest of consumers, communities, public safety and social wellbeing. She pointe out that most events as ShareTechsummit could serve for effective preparation of legislation.

All the involved parties in conference showed their interest in further dialogue and sharing of experience. Development in this area could help to create unified regulation within EU. This could bring the more effective protection of customers’ rights and open the unified European market for companies.

As per Slovakia and conference members it is worth to initiate the cooperation with government representatives, mostly Section of management for informatization under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister’s Office for Investments and Informatization. The main goal should be to identify negative impacts of the shared economy and looking for particular legislative solutions.
